What We Do

Schools

We currently work in 14 primary schools and 3 high schools. Our workers have face to face contact with over 5000 young people every year.

Chaplaincy Teams

As part of our work with Schools we would endeavour where possible to be a part of a chaplaincy team consisting of local ministers and anyone else the school has invited to be part of it. Where there is not an existing team we try to set up a new chaplaincy team in consultation with the Head Teacher and at their agreement or request. We try to support these teams by providing opportunities for informal training, help in preparing Religious Observance(RO)/Time For Reflection(TFR) events and encouraging creative thinking around ways that they can best support the schools they work with.

Religious Observance / Time for Reflection

Religious Observance, or RO, provides opportunities for the school community to express and celebrate values which are considered common human values; - gives the school community time to reflect upon a variety of traditions and viewpoints as well as other stimuli such as literature, art and music; and - provides opportunities for the community to reflect upon values, beliefs, commitments and hopes which are implicit in being human. Many non-denominational schools refer to RO as Time for Reflection. This helps to describe the type of experience that the learner can have through engaging with issues and events as part of RO. RO takes different forms and educational establishments are well placed to take account of their own particular contexts when planning RO.

Lunch Time / After-School Groups

We help to organise and support volunteers to run lunch time and after school groups in schools across Cambuslang and Rutherglen. These groups offer young people opportunities to explore the Bible and the Christian faith through games, quizzes, stories and reflective activities. Weekly groups take place in several local schools.

We deliver four projects throughout the school year. These are: Christmas Unwrapped, Easter Code, It's Your Move and Buddy Training.

Christmas Unwrapped

This is a two hour event designed to unpack the events of the Christmas story, to look more deeply at the meaning of Christmas. This is as an age appropriate introduction to the theme of incarnation, of God’s love coming to us in human form.

Easter Code

This is a two hour event designed for Primary 7 pupils as a natural progression from Christmas Unwrapped, helping pupils to understand the impact of Jesus' life, ministry and teaching.

It’s Your Move

This is a two hour event designed to prepare primary 7 young people for their move to High school. It uses video clips, music, crafts, quizzes and storytelling along with opportunities for questions to give young people the space to think and reflect on their move.

Buddy Training

This is a two hour programme aimed at primary 6 pupils to equip them to be the best buddies they can be.
